Traffic Control Device Manager
The Traffic Control Device Manager is responsible for the oversight, organization, and accountability of all traffic control equipment, ensuring compliance with company policies, MUTCD standards, and state/local regulations. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate with both yard personnel and field crews to support safe and efficient traffic control operations. The manager is also expected to leverage technology and data systems to improve accuracy, efficiency, and long-term scalability of device management.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management
- Lead, manage, and hold accountability for the traffic control device team and processes.
- Promote a safety-first culture in all aspects of equipment use and handling.
- Train and mentor team members on proper handling, setup, and return of traffic control devices.
- Provide technical support and guidance to field crews regarding equipment needs and usage.
- Partner with Safety/Training teams to ensure up-to-date compliance training for field and yard staff.
Inventory & Technology Management
- Track and maintain inventory of cones, barrels, barricades, signs, arrow boards, message boards, and crash attenuators.
- Conduct regular inventory audits and update records accurately.
- Maintain accurate logs of damaged, lost, or stolen equipment.
- Implement and maintain digital systems (e.g., barcoding, GPS tracking, or ERP integration) for asset tracking and reporting.
- Analyze usage data to forecast needs, reduce waste, and improve accountability.
Yard Oversight
- Ensure all devices are in proper working condition and meet MUTCD and DOT compliance standards.
- Immediately remove damaged or non-compliant equipment from service.
- Organize and manage the equipment yard and storage areas for efficient access and accountability.
- Prepare and stage devices for daily jobs according to approved Traffic Control Plans (TCPs).
- Coordinate with field crews to ensure proper loading, deployment, and return of equipment.
- Verify that deployed devices match TCP requirements and regulatory standards.
- Monitor equipment use in the field for safety and compliance.
Procurement, Supplies Coordination & Financial Oversight
- Work with suppliers to order new devices, replacement parts, and high-use items.
- Ensure timely restocking of frequently used equipment.
- Support cost control and budget efficiency through strategic purchasing and forecasting.
- Negotiate with vendors to secure favorable pricing and long-term supply reliability.
- Track cost per job for equipment usage and provide recommendations to reduce losses, damage, and inefficiencies.
Compliance & Safety
- Stay updated on local, state, and federal regulations affecting traffic control devices.
- Ensure all traffic control devices meet MUTCD and state DOT requirements.
- Enforce proper use, handling, and safety protocols for all equipment.
- Maintain accurate and audit-ready documentation of inspections, compliance checks, and corrective actions.
- Contribute to the development and enforcement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Cross-Departmental Collaboration & Innovation
- Coordinate with Estimating and Project Management to forecast equipment needs for upcoming jobs.
- Collaborate with Safety to integrate device-related training into company-wide programs.
- Stay informed of new traffic control technologies (e.g., smart signs, automated flagging devices) and assess potential implementation.

Qualifications
- Experience in traffic control operations, equipment management, or yard supervision preferred.
- Ability to travel throughout all FC traffic locations in Texas and NM.
- Strong knowledge of MUTCD standards and DOT compliance requirements.
- Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to lead, train, and motivate a team.
- Proficiency with basic computer systems and inventory management platforms.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to safety. Experience with data-driven decision-making and system integration is a plus
